Bladen County

Bladen County is located in North Carolina's southeast region and is grouped regionally for economic development with Hoke, Scotland, Richmond and Robeson counties. The county seat is Elizabethtown; other Bladen County communities include Bladenboro, Clarkton, Dublin, East Arcadia, Tar Heel and White Lake. It has a population of over 33,000 people.

Bladen County was the largest county in the state when Highland Scots came to the Cape Fear Valley in the 1700’s seeking religious freedom. Bladen is nicknamed the "Mother of Counties" because fifty-five counties have been carved from it. It now contains some 879 square miles and is the fourth largest county in the state.

Hometown Strong’s Action Team visited Bladen County in January 2019, where they heard many priorities from county and municipal leaders. One of those priorities, cultivating a skilled workforce, will be a focus of Hometown Strong’s partnership with local leaders.
